Step 2: Meet & Greet

A visit will be scheduled, either at home, school, or in our clinic, in order for you to meet the staff who will be working with your loved one. We will discuss what the primary needs are at this time and which services would be most beneficial. In-depth questions about your child, family, & child’s school will be asked so that the BCBA may gather important information for the assessment.

Step 3: Assessment Conducted

Behavior Builders uses a combination of 1:1 direct assessment/observation as well as data collection from parents/teachers (such as rating scales, tracking of problem behavior, etc.). Assessments may take anywhere from 2-10 hours to complete and are scheduled around your availability. Reports from other therapists (ST/PT/OT), doctors (psychologist, pediatrician, etc.) as well as progress reports from school will aid in the assessment.

Step 4: Assessment &
Treatment Plan Write-Up

Once the assessment is completed and data collection received from the parents/teacher, the BCBA will score everything and write the assessment report, which includes the recommended number of hours for therapy. A comprehensive treatment plan will also be created including individualized goals for therapy, teaching procedures, lesson plans, and data sheets used for tracking your child’s progress.

Step 5: Starting Therapy

Following the completion of the assessment and treatment plan, the BCBA meets with the family to explain the results and, if the family wishes to move ahead with therapy, the weekly schedule of services will be confirmed. Our goal of therapy is to not only create a successful program for our clients, but for their loved ones as well. This includes conducting training for families, caregivers, teachers and other professionals in the child’s life.
